Edith Cowan University (ECU) and Ho Chi Minh City Open University (HCMCOU) collaboration program.

This exciting collaboration between ECU and HCMCOU provides candidates with a strong research background the opportunity to undertake a research project during this four-year program. ECU’s Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is an opportunity to pursue a topic you are passionate about at the highest academic level. We invite candidates within the field of education, to apply for this independent, supervised research project that is assessed on the submission of a thesis or creative work and exegesis.

1. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates will be guided by the research priorities of the School of Education in stating their proposed area of research. The priority areas are: Teacher education; Equity and inclusion with education; Innovation in policy and practice; Education within social settings.
  • Candidates with a strong research background, e.g. graduates of a Master by research program, or other master programs with 6 months or more full-time equivalent research experience, or from foreign Master programs in which English is used as means of instruction (English/American/Australian studies; English; Applied linguistics; Education).
  • IELTS Academic overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0).

 

2. SELECTION PROCESS

  • All candidates must meet ECU admission criteria to be accepted for PhD studies at ECU.
  • Candidates submit their application at the HCMCOU Graduate School, Room 110, 97 Vo Van Tan, Dist. 3, HCMC. They will be initially selected on the basis of merit following a competitive application process.

  • ECU will invite selected candidates to apply for admission to the ECU PhD program. Candidates may apply at any time during the year.

  • Invitations to apply will be determined by ECU in its absolute discretion taking into account factors including availability of supervisory expertise/capacity at ECU, academic and language requirements, and feasibility of proposed research and its alignment with ECU’s Research themes and priority areas (as amended from time to time) currently described on the ECU website at www.ecu.edu.au/research/research-themes-and-priority-areas.

  • Candidates will be ECU students and will be bound by ECU statutes, by-laws, rules, policies, procedures, or other similar instruments at all times during their PhD course.

  • Candidates who successfully complete their PhD course in accordance with ECU’s requirements will receive an ECU PhD degree.

 

3. STUDY PATHWAY

  • The ECU-HCMCOU PhD collaboration program is a four-year program. Students must complete their confirmation of candidature at ECU in their first year.
  • ECU will provide a supervisory team comprising at least one ECU supervisor to successful candidates with a second supervisor to be from either ECU or HCMCOU.
  • Candidates will be enrolled at ECU, but may spend time at HCMCOU subject to the Model 1 or Model 2 requirements.
